Tucker Paving is proud to announce that we will be accepting an Eagle Award for our work on the Gran Destino Tower!

In 2019, Disney officially opened its Gran Destino Tower, an expansion of the Coronado Springs Resort. It was a proud day for Tucker Paving as we worked for two and a half years as a collaborator, laying the groundwork for this amazing hotel! Those feelings of pride and thankfulness for getting to play a role in Central Florida’s economic development continued when the Central Florida Chapter of the Associated Builders & Contractors (CFC ABC) announced that Tucker Paving would be receiving an Eagle Award for our work at Gran Destino Tower at the 2020 Excellence in Construction Awards in October!

Tucker Paving’s Work on the Gran Destino Tower
Tucker Paving worked for over two years preparing the groundwork and site preparation for the 15-story tower. We trucked in 15 to 16 feet of fill dirt to prepare the site, working in conjunction with Balfour Beatty. Preparing the foundation for such a massive building requires site clearing, grading the site, stabilizing the subgrade, completing base work, and installing underground utilities.

The Gran Destino Tower was built and ready to open within three years, and it’s a beautiful structure. Its design was inspired by a collaboration between Walt Disney and surrealist painter Salvador Dali, which resulted in the 1946 animated feature “Destino.” Serving as the main entry for the Coronado Springs Resort, the Gran Destino Tower celebrates Spanish explorers, artists, writers, and architects in its interior design, cuisine options, and more.

The Excellence in Construction Awards are given out each year to CFC ABC members as a means to recognize and celebrate outstanding projects and to raise the level of construction standards throughout the industry by acknowledging excellence in workmanship. The Eagle Award specifically recognizes the first place General Contractor and Subcontractor/Specialty Contractor winner in a category. Winners are judged on many factors, such as the execution of design, quality of craftsmanship, the attention to detail, proper installation, outstanding planning and coordination efforts, challenges successfully overcome, project complexity, custom materials, safety program, and owner satisfaction, according to the CFC ABC website. Project of the Year Awards are also given out at the banquet. The awards banquet is slated for October 17 at the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate.
