THE 2018 Florida Transportation Builders Association (FBTA) Convention is coming up quickly, and it won’t happen without representation from Tucker Paving, Inc., and our new sister company, Jet Materials, LLC. (You can learn about Jet at About five team members from each of the two companies are registered to attend the convention, and word has it that our group from Tucker Paving will be coming back with a couple of nice awards. (We won’t spill the beans about the awards in this blog; we’ll save that news for a future article.)

The FBTA convention is set for Aug. 2-5 at Boca Raton Resort & Club in Boca Raton, and it promises to be a good one for the organization — “Florida’s Voice for the Transportation Construction Industry” — and all of its attending members and guests.

Among the many official and nonofficial activities planned, the FBTA will bid a fitting farewell to its current president, Bob Burleson. Though Bob doesn’t have an official retirement until Dec. 31, the convention will be great opportunity to honor him for his 30 years of service to the association.

Convention highlights include an FBTA board of directors meeting and welcome reception on Aug. 2; an awards breakfast, general session, and associates/affiliates meeting on Aug. 3; a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) roundtable discussion, grand finale reception, and grand banquet on Aug 4; and a prayer breakfast on Aug. 5. Fun supplemental activities include a pool party and three big outdoor tournaments — one each for golf, tennis, and fishing.

During the Aug. 3 awards breakfast, the FBTA will recognize the 2018 winners of its coveted Best in Construction Award (in several categories), the Safety Award, the DBE Award, and the TransPAC Award. The DBE Award recognizes FBTA member companies for meeting or exceeding the FDOT Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Utilization Goal for the 2016-17 federal fiscal year. The TransPAC Award is presented in appreciation to companies that contribute to FTBA TransPAC, the association’s political action committee.
