Florida was recently named in the top five states for construction by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), boasting of numerous Career and Technical Education and workforce development programs, a robust and highly skilled workforce, and one of the largest economies in the nation. Tucker Paving has been in the Florida construction industry for 30 years, and we know that Florida’s position as a leading state for construction means that The Sunshine State sets a lot of construction trends. See those trends in the construction industry that you can expect to see in 2025.
2025 Construction Trends
- Climate Resilience. Florida is no stranger to climate extremes, and forecasts portend that severe storms, rising sea levels, and uncommon weather will only increase in the future. Florida builders are using stronger materials, more robust building techniques, and smarter designs that will allow infrastructure, residential, and commercial construction to better withstand the changes.
- Sustainable Construction. This has been a trend for many years now, and it’s shifting from an option to a necessity. Clients want it, it saves money, and it’s good for the environment. It’s a no-brainer that this trend will be here to stay.
- Vertical Building of Mix-Use Space. As populations continue to grow—as they are doing in Florida—the housing market has been unable to match the growth with affordable single-use buildings alone. Buildings will trend upward with a focus on mix-use space: retail space on the ground floor and residential apartments or commercial offices above.
- Smart Technology. Every day seems to bring a new thing we can do with our devices. Buyers are wanting that smart technology built into residences and commercial construction alike, allowing lights, security systems, HVAC, and more to be controlled with an app on a device.
- Adaptable Spaces. As costs rise for both existing homes and new construction, buyers want to know that their spaces will be able to adapt to different needs, both inside and out. More spaces will be built using ergonomic designs and featuring multi-functional spaces.
