Asphalt pavement is durable and has a long life span; the installation of asphalt pavement is relatively quick, but it’s not without disruptions. However, Tucker Paving has learned all the tips and tricks on how to minimize disruptions over our 30 years in the pavement industry. Whether you are installing new asphalt, doing emergency repairs, or repaving asphalt, there are ways to complete the paving projects with as few interruptions as possible.
Planning Paving to Avoid Disruptions
These are tips that you can use to plan a paving project that has as few disruptions to drivers, pedestrians, residents, and businesses as possible:
- Time Paving to Coincide with Low Traffic. Paving at night is generally the best time to minimize disrupting traffic and business use. However, emergencies arise, and it’s not always possible to pave during the nighttime hours. In instances where you need to pave during the day, try to avoid peak morning and late afternoon rush hours.
- Break large jobs into smaller steps. Rather than close a whole road or parking lot to pave all of it at once, try breaking it into different sections that can be completed at different times. This allows for a portion of the pavement to remain open to traffic.
- Stick to the Schedule. Deviating from a schedule that has been agreed upon by municipal leaders, law enforcement, residents, business owners and more will likely throw a wrench in day-to-day operations.
- Continue communication. All stakeholders in a paving project should stay in communication with each other to ensure everyone is on the same page. Make sure to express expectations and share any deviations from the agreed-upon schedule and scope of work to minimize disruptions.
