ON A FINE RECENT FRIDAY, the headquarters at Tucker Paving, Inc., in Winter Haven became significantly brighter when a very special fellow Floridian stopped by for a brief visit.

Team Tucker was proud to welcome Courtney Sexton, the reigning Miss Florida, on March 10.

Courtney had been in the area for a couple of days and had made several goodwill and official stops, including attendance during a luncheon meeting of the Downtown Lakeland chapter of the American Business Women’s Association (AWBA). That was on International Women’s Day, when Courtney spoke to the ABWA members — some of her “incredible role models in business” — about her personal platform, “Get Up! Get Moving! Volunteer!”

Courtney was at Tucker Paving long enough to greet several managers and team members and have her photo taken with individuals and groups and in front of one of our big front-end loaders. You might have seen a few of Courtney’s photos on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/tuckerpaving.

A visit to Courtney’s own official Miss America-related Facebook page — www.facebook.com/MissAmericaFL — shows her to be very much a young lady on the constant go. With some kind of official visit set almost daily, it’s been a very busy past 10 months for her. Courtney’s reign as Miss Florida 2016 will end on Saturday, July 1, the final and crowning night of the Miss Florida 2017 scholarship pageant, which will be held (starting June 27) in the Youkey Theater at The Lakeland Center. Lakeland is the current official home of the Miss Florida organization, we’ve learned.

Not everyone can get to visit Courtney in person, as many of us at Tucker Paving were fortunate to do a few Fridays ago, but everyone can get to know her to some extent with just a few minutes’ time spent online on Facebook. Something we discovered interesting about this delightful young lady is that in addition to her exciting role as Miss Florida, she also serves as a spokeswoman for The Everglades Foundation and as brand ambassador for Advanced Recovery Systems, an addiction treatment center in Winter Park. Courtney is a graduate student at the University of Central Florida in Orlando and is working on a master’s degree in health administration. Her career goal is to become a health administrator in a children’s hospital.

We thank Courtney for taking the time to visit Tucker Paving recently. For the balance of her Miss Florida reign and for all things in career and life, we wish her all the best.
