Explore the most common paving myths that you’ll come across in Florida.

Paving is a common sight in The Sunshine State; almost as common are all the myths about pavement in Florida that you will hear. The Tucker Paving team has over 30 years and countless years of combined experience in the paving industry in Central Florida, and we’re happy to separate fact from fiction.

Common Paving Myths

These are the most common myths you’ll find surrounding pavement in Florida:

  1. Pavement lasts forever/ pavement doesn’t last a long time. Unfortunately, both concrete and asphalt pavement do not last forever, but you can extend the life of both with proper maintenance.
  2. Pavement only needs repairs for looks. Damage to asphalt and concrete like cracks, potholes, rutting, and more are not just unsightly; they also need to be repaired so that the problem does not get bigger and more costly to be fixed. Additionally, damage can also be indicative of a larger problem with the pavement’s structure.
  3. Pavement repair is a big pain. Both asphalt and concrete can be repaired, depending upon the damage. Asphalt repair is especially easy when it comes to completing the repairs in a timely manner. The truth is that repairing pavement now will be easier and less expensive than repairing it in the future.
  4. Pavement is bad for the environment. The truth is that both the asphalt and the concrete industries have made pledges to sustainability and to reduce the environmental impact of both forms of pavement; the use of reclaimed materials is now more often the norm than the exception. Similarly, inroads are being made every day to lessen the ‘Urban Heat Island” effect of pavement, to utilize permeable pavements to handle runoff, and more.
