Tucker Paving has dump trucks on most of our work sites; we’ve been in the construction industry for 30 years, and we offer site clearing, demo, excavation and grading, underground utilities, concrete, and asphalt paving—all work that can require dump trucks. Unloading dump trucks on ramps can be dangerous. Safety is our first priority, so we make sure that any of our dump trucks unloading on ramps are doing so in the safest manner possible. See the tips we share with our employees to keep everyone on our work sites safe.
Staying Safe While Unloading Dump Trucks on Ramps
These are the safety protocols that we require our employees to follow:
- There should only be one vehicle on a ramp at a time, unless one vehicle is stationary, like a track hoe.
- Don’t back up while equipment is working the pile without clear direction from the operator or a spotter.
- Other equipment should not be in motion on a ramp while you are backing up the ramp, unless there is plenty of room on the ramp.
- Do not back up the ramp while another truck or equipment is on the ramp.
- If multiple trucks are arriving, especially from different companies, request a spotter.
- Curb the ramps. Build at least a 2-ft high wind row of dirt to create a curb on the edges of the ramp.
Whenever in doubt, err on the side of caution and wait until the ramp is clear or use a spotter. There is no part of any construction job that is worth an accident, injury, or worse.
