Make sure that any digging you do—on the job or at home—is safe to do by calling 811 first.

At Tucker Paving, safety is always our first priority—and that means contacting 811 before any excavations begin. We have 30 years of experience in paving, excavation, demolition, and even installing underground utilities, and we know how important it is to ensure there are no underground utilities present before you dig. Sunshine 811 reported that there were over 26,000 reported telecommunications, water, and gas lines damaged in 2024 in Florida; damages to these utilities means lost services for nearby residents, a loss of money for whoever is responsible for fixing the damage, and even possible safety hazards!

About Sunshine 811

Sunshine 811 is a nonprofit organization that facilitates the labeling of underground utilities at the request of those planning to dig. Sunshine 811 contacts the underground facility owners and operators that have underground utilities located in the area of the request; this is so the utilities can be marked. This process can take up to 48 hours, so make sure you call and leave yourself at least two full business days before you need to dig.

Sunshine 811 advises you to:

  1. Take your Internet Ticket Entry (ITE) training.  This training helps you to fill out the required forms quickly and accurately to avoid delays in the Exactix system. The trainings and tutorials can be found at my.sunshine811.com or the organization’s YouTube channel.
  2. Use specific descriptions on your locate ticket. If your locate ticket does not have accurate, specific descriptions, then it could delay the marking of utilities and your project.
  3. Confirm utility responses in Exactix before you dig. Seeing marking flags at your site is NOT confirmation enough that it is okay to dig! You must check the utility responses in Exactix.
  4. Have Ideas? Join Sunshine 811’s local Damage Prevention Council. DPCs are regional, giving you the opportunity to have a voice in your area concerning safe digging practices and damage prevention.
  5. Take Safety Courses. Sunshine 811 and their partners offer an array of online and in-person educational opportunities.
