Most construction projects start with site clearing, and it’s an important step to make sure you have a clean, safe site that is prepped and ready for construction.

Without proper site clearing, a construction site could be unsafe, hard to navigate, or even a poor foundation for whatever is being built upon it.

At Tucker Paving, we offer site clearing, site grading, stabilized subgrade, and base work. Site clearing creates the foundation that supports paving, utilities, structures, or whatever else is being constructed on the site. A poor base can result in problems down the line, so it’s vital that site clearing is done with an eye towards quality and details. Explore all the steps involved in site clearing.

Steps Involved in Site Clearing
Most site clearing jobs start with clearing out underbrush like small bushes, weeds, and other smaller-sized vegetation. This gives workers a clear site to work in, making the site safer and more maneuverable.
Next, larger vegetation, such as trees and large shrubs are removed. Trees are generally cut down first, and then the stumps are removed completely. We take care to remove all roots because they can change the state of the ground as they decay, leading to issues with pavements and other structures.
Next, large stones and rocks are removed, as are any other vegetation or materials—such as old utilities or piping—that could cause issues with structures down the road. Animal burrows or other holes or tunnels are also filled with clay to ensure they don’t affect the integrity of the site’s foundation. Then the surface soil is generally removed because if there’s a large amount of vegetative matter in it, the surface soil to be unstable, making it a poor foundation. Topsoil is either saved to be added back to the site after construction is complete, or it is used elsewhere.
Lastly, the site is graded and uniform soil materials are added to create a safe, stable foundation that will support whatever pavement or other structures that are planned for years to come.
