A FEW DAYS BACK, we wrote and posted an article about the prestigious Eagle awards Tucker Paving, Inc., received Oct. 7 during the 2017 Central Florida Chapter ABC (Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc.) Excellence in Construction (EIC) Awards Banquet in Orlando. (See the article here.)
The ABC Eagle award is the highest award a subcontractor can receive from the Central Florida ABC organization, which annually recognizes and celebrates outstanding projects built by its members.
We think it’s fitting here to remind everyone what ABC is all about.
Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC) — www.abc.org — is the largest commercial construction trade association in Florida, with five chapters across the state, and a chapter network that covers every state in the union.
With the national headquarters in Washington, D.C., ABC is the only organization that can serve contractors and subcontractors in all trades (as well as suppliers and associates) who want to conduct their business in an unrestricted market.
The Central Florida Chapter ABC — online at www.abccentralflorida.com — represents companies doing business in Orange, Lake, Volusia, Seminole, and Osceola counties. Tucker Paving also has had an association with the Tampa-based Florida Gulf Coast Chapter ABC — www.abcflgulf.org — which represents mostly coastal contractors from Collier County in the south to Alachua County-Gainesville in the north. Florida Gulf Coast Chapter ABC members include several from Winter Haven and Lakeland.
ABC was founded on the merit shop philosophy, which, according to the organization, is “a philosophy that encourages open competition and a free-enterprise approach that awards contracts solely on merit, regardless of labor affiliation.” In more basic terms, a merit shop is a firm or organization without a labor union.
ABC chapters help their members win work and deliver that work safely, ethically, profitably, and for the betterment of the communities in which ABC and its members work. ABC defends its members’ right to operate merit shop within its workforce or on a construction job site.
