A number of Tucker Paving managers, supervisors, and employees were reinvigorated, refreshed, refocused, and retooled with key information and resources following a couple of big trade association annual meetings recently.

The first event, the 2017 ABC of Florida State Convention, was held July 27-29 at the JW Marriott Marco Island resort. ABC is the Associated Builders and Contractors of Florida and its five regional state chapters. Tucker Paving is a member of both the Central Florida and Gulf Coast ABC chapters.

ABC’s membership nationally represents all specialties within the U.S. construction industry and is comprised primarily of firms that perform work in the industrial and commercial sectors. ABC of Florida supports statewide legislative and political efforts on behalf of its members.

One of the ABC convention segments was devoted to a member-staff discussion of ABC priorities for the coming year. Tucker Paving was represented during this discussion, which also featured an appearance and brief remarks by Adam Putnam of Bartow. Most people know Adam as a former state and U.S. representative and as the current commissioner of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Come November 2018, we might just be calling him governor-elect of Florida. Adam is running as a Republican candidate to succeed Rick Scott as governor. You can see a picture of Adam with our company president, Larry “Chip” Tucker, in a July 31 post on our Facebook site.

The second big summer event attended by Tucker Paving personnel was the 2017 Florida Transportation Builders’ Association (FTBA) Annual Convention. This meeting was held Aug. 10-13 at The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island resort.

FTBA is recognized as “Florida’s Voice for the Transportation Construction Industry” and is the primary advocate for member organizations engaged in work in the road- and bridge-building industry.

On Aug. 11, during a morning meeting at the FTBA convention, Tucker Paving received one of the association’s top safety awards. We’re proud of our team for earning this award, which came on the heels of our company surpassing 1 million man-hours of work with no loss-time injuries. That milestone was reached this past spring.

The ABC and FTBA conventions both were information-packed, fun, and rewarding events — meetings well worth the investment of Tucker Paving resources and employee time to attend and participate in the business, social and recreational activities. We’re already looking forward to the 2018 conventions.
